Matt Alexander, took his 100th wicket for the Bears at the top grade during the Round 3 win over Blacktown, when he bowled the opposition captain, Matt Day, and took 1/33. A left-arm opening bowler with a distinctive slingshot action, Matt has been a mainstay of our First Grade attack since he joined the Bears from Manly at the start of the 2018/19 season.

Matt’s 100 wickets have come at 25.87, and his Bears career to date is highlighted by 7/38 against Bankstown in Round 1 of 2019/20, the club’s best ever First Grade limited-overs bowling figures. This was the beginning of a truly remarkable season, in which Matt took 48 poles at 22, was the leading wicket-taker in the Belvidere Cup, and earned a place in the NSW Premier Cricket team of the year. He was also rewarded with selection in the NSW XI to play the England Lions at the end of that season, but the match was washed out without a ball being bowled.

As well as his 153 First Grade wickets across his two clubs, Matt is also more than capable with the bat and has scored valuable lower-order runs, averaging 20 for the Bears. He made a match-winning 36* against Randwick-Petersham last season, sharing an unbroken 9th wicket partnership of 64 with Mac Jenkins.
