Green Shield - Premier U16 Competition

North Sydney Cricket Club was founded in 1858, and in 1893 became one of the founding members of the Sydney Grade Cricket competition. Based at North Sydney Oval, North Sydney Cricket Club has a long and proud tradition in Sydney Grade Cricket, boasting past players such as Sir Donald Bradman, Bill O’Reilly, Sid Barnes, Keith Miller, Charlie McCartney, Stan McCabe, Doug Walters, Trevor Chappell, Kerry Keefe, Phil Marks, Scott Hookey and Stuart MacGill.

The AW Green Shield, or “Greenies” as it is more commonly known, comprises teams who represent their grade sides in an Under 16 competition consisting of 7 preliminary rounds, qualifying finals, semi-finals and a Final.

Many of NSW's top cricketers have come through this prestigious competition. The AW Green Shield is currently regarded as the toughest junior competition in the world, making it very difficult to both gain selection into, and compete in. All points received in this competition go towards the NSW Premier Cricket Club Championship.

North Sydney last won the Green Shield in the 2008/9 season and has featured in the finals regularly since that triumph.
