Bears allrounder Mac Jenkins has earned selection in the NSW Metro U19 squad for a series of matches against ACT/NSW Country and Queensland in late March. It is not Mac’s first selection for his state, having played U17s, as well as for the Australian U16 side in a series against Pakistan.

Mac joined the Bears in 2019/20, having previously made his first grade debut for Randwick-Petersham whilst still playing Green Shield. Mac claimed UTS North Sydney first grade cap number 669 against Sutherland in his first season.

Mac was a crucial member of the Bears’ Poidevin-Gray Shield side in 2019/20, and captained the side in the Grand Final. He finished that PGs season with a batting average north of 28, 10 wickets, and an economy rate under 4 – a remarkable statistic in a competition solely consisting of one-dayers and T20s. He topped that season off with four wickets in the final round of first grade against Blacktown.

In 2020/21, Mac has taken this form into first grade, collecting 19 wickets with the ball while averaging over 20 with the bat. Mac collected 4 wickets against Northern Districts in round 13, but it was his undefeated 26 against Randwick-Petersham in round 7 that was the season’s highlight.

Having collected two wickets, including the dangerous Daya Singh, as Randy-Petes posted 227, Mac then came to the crease with the score at 7/164. It was soon 8/165, with Mac and Matt Alexander confronting some dangerous reverse swing and tight spin. They dug in, battling for almost an hour and a half to collect the 63 runs necessary for victory.

Mac is one of the brightest young talents in NSW Premier Cricket and the Bears wish him well in the upcoming U19 series.
