John Saint Joins the Bears' Coaching Staff

Welcome John Saint

We are delighted to welcome John Saint, who has joined the Bears’ men’s program as Head Assistant Coach.

As well as a strong coaching pedigree, including being bowling coach at Penrith, John brings a wealth of experience from a highly accomplished playing career. John started his Grade Cricket career with Penrith, where he played Green Shield and worked his way up the grades, and he then moved to Sydney University. At Sydney Uni, he won the O’Reilly Medal for the best and fairest First Grade player in both 1993/94 and 1994/95. In an interview with Stump to Stump last year, he said “My motivation was, and still is, my 3 daughters Caitlin, Mikaela and Emily. When my youngest (Emily) was born I promised all 3 of them that I would do something special and win one O’Reilly Medal for each. I nearly did!”

John then moved to Tasmania in search of an opportunity to play State cricket, and made his debut for the Apple Isle in 1995/96. His First Class scalps include both Wasim Akram and Arjuna Ranatunga in matches against touring international sides.

Outside of cricket, John’s loves spending time with his family and is the part-owner of a racehorse. May the odds be in his favour both on the racecourse and during his time with the Bears, and we look forward to learning from him over this season and beyond.
