In round 14’s big third grade win over Mosman, Fletcher May chalked up his 100th wicket for the Bears as he collected 5/59 in the second dig.

Fletcher join UTS North Sydney from Balmain South Sydney in 2018/19 and, in three short seasons, has notched up 100 wickets. Fletcher immediately impressed at pre-season nets in 2018 with his muscular seam bowling, and started his Bears career in third grade. That season he helped 3s to an outright win over Wests, collecting 5/47 to bundle the Magpies out in the second innings.

He was a member of the Poidevin-Gray side in his first season and found his feet in PGs’ impressive win over Randwick-Petersham that season, collecting 3/34. His role in the U21 side became even more important in 2019/20 as the team charged all the way to the grand final. His two early wickets in the preliminary final win over Gordon set the tone for the bowling unit and he showed glimpses of his batting ability, belting a quickfire 25 in the grand final.

In 2020/21 Fletcher’s allround abilities have been clearly on display. His 72 against Parramatta in 43 degree heat (after bowling 10 overs) showed remarkable stamina to secure a win for his side. The following round his bowling was crucial in the death overs as his 5/36 kept Randwick-Petersham’s total below 200 and allowed his side a comfortable chase.

This weekend Fletcher will be an integral part of third grade’s semi-final side as they take on Easts at Waverley Oval.
