UK Bears' Success Continues

The Raine & Horne North Sydney Bears have a number of players plying their trade in the UK over winter. The success of the British Bears has continued through June and July.

The big fixture in June was a Bear on Bear showdown in the East Anglia Premier League. Copdock and Old Ipswichian CC, featuring former first grade captain, Jaik Mickleburgh, took on a Burwell CC side including Bears young gun, Tom Jagot. Both Tom and Jaik were in sparkling form coming into the match.

Burwell sent the opposition in and Jaik made them rue the decision, helping to pile on 192 for the first wicket. Jaik’s 94 helped take Copdock to the imposing total of 6d/355. In reply Tom assembled a rapid 121 from the opener’s spot, his second century of the season. Despite Tom’s efforts, Burwell fell short of the target and Copdock pocketed the victory.

Elsewhere the Bears have been just as successful, including:

  • James Newtown scoring his third century of the season for Wickford CC. James has 875 runs at over 65 for the Essex-based club this season.
  • Ray Alexander topping the runs charts at West Herts CC with 561.
  • Alex Dolly collecting a five-for for Flowery Field CC in the Greater Manchester League.
  • Michael Oliver providing all-round value to Clevedon CC with 21 wickets and 380 runs.

Native English Bear Jake Lintott is also enjoying a stellar season. Jake has racked up 963 runs in all cricket, including two hundreds for Clevedon CC and another for minor county side Wiltshire. In addition he has claimed 47 wickets, including a remarkable 7/20 against Downend CC. Jake’s Clevedon teammate, Matt Carpenter, also has 24 wickets at less than 16 apiece as Clevedon chase the West of England Premier League title.
