NSJCA Competition changes for 2011/2012

Before registering, please ensure you understand which age group you are registering for and when and on which day the matches will be played. These vary from season to season as the North Shore Junior Cricket Association (NSJCA) tries to fit more matches on a stagnating number of grounds. Some competitions have to be played on Sundays, a phenomenon that is only likely to increase in the future. You also need to take into account school sporting commitments your child may have both in Term IV 2011 and Term 1 2012.

Below are the anticipated age groups for the 2011-12 season, and when they will be played. The cut-off to determine age groups is 31 August 2011. Eg if your child is 9 now or turns 9 before 1 September 2011, then they would be in the Under 10s.

Uniform/Gear

New players to the club receive a playing shirt included with their registration fees. In Under 9s, new players will also receive a club broad-brimmed cricket hat; in older age groups they will receive a club cap. For returning players requiring a new shirt, the cost is $30, and they may also purchase the broad-brimmed sun hat for $15.

Players can either wear white or cream shorts or long cricket pants, white or cream socks, and predominantly white joggers.

Team kits include all equipment necessary for playing, so there is no requirement for players to have their own gear. Past experience shows that players prefer to have their own abdominal protector or 'box' which can be purchased from the Greg Chappell shop for around $6.

Our preferred cricket gear supplier is the Greg Chappell Cricket Centre who currently offer North Sydney junior players a 5% discount on purchases.

Coaching/Umpiring/Scoring Workshops

This season, in addition to normal team practice sessions, we are hoping to hold a number of additional coaching sessions for competition teams. The Club encourages coaches to obtain a Level 1 coaching qualification, and will reimburse the cost of the course upon successful completion.

The NSJCA has scheduled a number of workshops for the 2011/12 season, the details of which can be found on the NSJCA website http://www.nsjca.asn.au/
