This year, Cricket Australia is further developing its junior cricket pathway to ensure increased engagement and enjoyment of the game. This means we will experience some changes in game formats this season. As a Club, we certainly want to encourage our players continuing their cricket for as long as possible and support this concept, however, this will bring about some fundamental changes to our team structures.

In order to help visualise this, the attached documents outline

There are two fundamental changes that may impact your children and the team they play in this year.

Firstly, some teams will have reduced player numbers. Implementation of this regulation, as directed by Cricket Australia, is designed to allow greater player participation within the game to balance out the reduced number of overs in the game.

Secondly, there are a limited number of teams that can go into the competitive divisions. Historically, we have found that friendship teams have struggled to be competitive in the higher divisions, and so this year, like other Clubs within our Association, we have decided to implement grading in the Under 11 and above age groups.

You will notice as you register this year, that you can select if you would like to be considered to be graded for placement into the top division team for your age group. The selection process will be run by our Senior Club, creating an arms length approach in the selection process. There are maximum numbers of players for teams as directed by the Association, so selection of players will be made on this basis. The actual date of the grading trials is to be confirmed, however, expected to be either 20th or 27th August. This will be confirmed as soon as possible.

Grading is designed to create more even ability within a team, therefore greater enjoyment for the players, a more competitive game, as well as a safer environment for the players if they are all playing with both peers and opponents who have a similar ability.

We understand that this may not be the direction your child may wish to take, so please note that grading is not compulsory.

This is a big change to Club cricket and one that all Clubs are subject to. This year will see some disruption in our teams, but it does set up our Club up in line with a solid foundation for our children’s cricket pathway well into the future.

NSJCA Competitions for 2016/2017

Before registering, please ensure you understand which age group you are registering for and when and on which day the matches will be played. These vary from season to season as the North Shore Junior Cricket Association (NSJCA) tries to fit more matches on a stagnating number of grounds. Some competitions have to be played on Sundays, a phenomenon that is only likely to increase in the future.  You also need to take into account school sporting commitments your child may have both in Term IV, 2017 and especially in Term 1, 2018.

The location of games for U9 and up varies from week to week.  North Sydney's unofficial home grounds are Primrose Park and Naremburn Ovals.  However, games can be played across the lower north shore from Mosman, to Lane Cove, to West Pymble to St Ives (generally within a half hour or so drive)

Below are the anticipated age groups for the 2017-18 season, and when they will be played. The cut-off to determine age groups is 31 August, 2017. E.g. if your child is 9 now or turns 9 on or before 31 August, 2017, then they would be in the Under 10s.

Players may play in more than one division if time permits.
