Bears beach Barber’s Whales

A stunning first grade century from Tim Affleck led North Sydney to an eight-wicket victory over Mosman on a sun-soaked day at North Sydney Oval.

Affleck (109no) and Seb Reid (56no) combined for an unbeaten third-wicket stand of 149 to easily account for Mosman’s 221.
...
Affleck’s century included a four-ball demolition of David Barber that included three sixes and a four.

The win takes North Sydney to third in pursuit of the Belvedere Cup.
Norths’ bowlers earlier ensured Mosman a rocky encounter, ripping through the top order to leave the Whales beached at 6-125.

Glenn Aitken (3-61) was chief destroyer, while James Campbell (2-35) and Scott Rodgie (2-35) failed to succumb to flat-track syndrome.

Ironically, it was ex-bear David Barber that rescued Mosman from a poor total, hitting 35 before feathering one into Jay Lenton’s gloves.

The Bears reached 1-74 in reply before David Barber – yes, David Barber – beat the aggressive swing of Daniel Hughes to r...ap the pads in front of the sticks.

Barber’s effort was not enough, however, as Tim Affleck and Seb Reid combined class and noodle to reach 2-223 declared.

The Bears had Mosman 5-86 in the second innings before stumps were pulled.
